Herbert E. Hurst, 83, of rural Marion passed away at 1:00 PM on Sunday, April 29, 2012 at his home with his family by his side.
It was Mr. Hurst's wishes that his body be cremated and no services held. Blue Funeral Home in Marion is assisting the family with arrangements.
Herbert Eugene was born on Tuesday, February 19, 1929 in Blunt County, TN to Harvey & Stella (Murphy) Hurst. He married Mollie Heisler on Thursday, September 29, 1977 in Danville. They shared nearly 35 years of marriage and raised 7 children; she survives of Marion.
Herb is survived by his devoted wife, Mollie; children, Jim & Carol Hurst of Pasadena, Don & Sheila Haggard of DuQuoin, Jane & Ron Tuey of Livingston, Rose & Larry Oldham of Clifton, Susan & David Allen of Fairberry, Cindy Beaumont and Krystal Dalpra, both of Marion; his beloved canine companion, CoCo; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; siblings, Jack & Myrna Hurst and Margaret Graham, all of Maryville, TN.
Mr. Hurst is preceded in death by his parents, Harvey & Stella; 2 sisters and 2 brothers.
Herb served in the United States Army as a Sergeant. He was quite the people person, traveling to Harrah’s in Metropolis to bend the ears of the many tourists who entered the casino. He will be missed by all who knew him.
