Carol Alfred Newbold died Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at his home in Creal Springs.
Carol was born in Johnson County Illinois to William R. and Grace (Rich) Newbold as the 13th of 15 brothers and sisters. Carol married Frances Camden on July 2, 1949, in Piggott, Ark. Frances and Carol were married for 63 years and had two children, Dale Alfred and Sandi (Newbold) Duncan.
Carol is survived by brothers Jimmy Newbold of Lake Station, Indiana and Harry (Sam) Newbold of Luebbering, Missouri: daughter, Sandi (Newbold) Duncan, of Creal Springs; grandchildren, Christopher Dale Newbold (Stacy) of Boonville Mo., Sara Beth Johnson (Jeremy) of Springfield, Kent Nicholas Duncan of Creal Springs, Megan Renee Duncan of Stonefort, Jason Jones (Melissa) of Jefferson City, MO, and Rebecca Davis (Joshua) of St. Charles, MO; and great-grandchildren, Alisa Newbold, Amanda Newbold, Jaycob Johnson, Jayci Johnson, Cameron Owens, Mason Owens, Braydon Owens, Adelaide Jones, Calista Jones, and Doryn Jones.
He was preceded in death by his parents; several brothers and sisters; his wife Frances; son, Dale Alfred Newbold; and several nieces and nephews and cousins.
Carol enjoyed being active and outside. He retired from Peabody Coal Company and spent his retirement years staying busy. He was known for his garden and enjoyed sharing it with family, friends and most anyone else who dropped by. He loved to buy and sell at auctions, repair and sell lawn mowers, and generally horse trade anything else he got into his hands. He spent many mornings at the restaurant swapping stories and tall tales. He enjoyed fishing and he taught all his grandkids how to catch both catfish and crappie.
Services will be at 12 p.m. Monday, April 22, Blue Funeral Home in Marion, with the Rev. Keith Owens officiating. Burial will be in Simmons Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. before the service at Blue Funeral Home in Marion.
