Alex Eugene "Butch" Connell

Marion-Alex Eugene “Butch” Connell, 73, passed away on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at the CLC at the Marion VA. Alex was born on July 2, 1945 in Marion to Alex and Ethel (Blue) Connell. He was a graduate of Marion High School and graduated from SIU with a degree in forestry. Alex served in the U.S. Army. He worked as a landscaper for many years.  Alex enjoyed spending time outdoors and enjoyed time with family and friends.  He had a special talent and love for sharing stories. Survivors include: Son-John Todd Connell and wife Wendy of Aurora, IL Daughter-Bethany Connell Story and husband James of Dallas, GA Sisters: Katherine Dees of Marion Carolyn Sue Lemmon and husband Bill of Marion Glenda Kelton and husband Gary of Spring Hill, FL Grandchildren: Nathan Connell Lauren Connell Erin Connell Jorell Story Gabrielle Story Jordan Story Countless numbers of nieces, nephews and lifelong friends He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Elizabeth Eike Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at 11am at Blue Funeral Home in Marion with Rev. Dan Whitfield officiating. Burial will be at Maplewood Cemetery.  Visitation will be on Saturday from 10:30am until the time of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The National Wildlife Federation or the Marion VA CLC and will be accepted at the funeral home.
