Marion-Alta Winters, Jr. 79, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, February 15, 2017. Alta was born on September 22, 1937 to Alta Winters Sr. and Maggie Lisaius.  He leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Shirley Mae Kneezle Winters; son, Richard A. Winters; daughter, Tina R. Winters Horvath and husband Ken; grandchildren, Cameron A. Taylor and wife Danielle and their sons Anthony A. Hopkins and Michael A. Taylor; Zachary D. Winters; his beloved dogs Jasper and Buster; brother, Paul (Pete) Winters and wife Karen; sister, Virginina Winters. Alta is rejoicing in heaven with his other siblings, Arlie Winters, Johnnie Winters, Helen Harris and Hallie Watkins. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews he loved very much.  He has a brother in law, Alvin (Bud) Kneezle and wife Carmen and their children Christopher Kneezle and wife Britany and children Traci Kneezle Borum and husband Greg and children. Alta worked at Herrin Maytag for 38 years.  He served our county in the U.S. Army.  Alta was a member of Arnoldview Baptist Church. He loved to fish and hunt and was a member of Heartland Bass.  Alta did a lot of volunteer work and was on the committee for the senior center.  He made his family very proud.  No greater husband, father, grandfather or great grandfather can ever be found.  His heart has always been led by our Lord with his giving nature, love and kindness to all. Alta has been battling cancer and fought to the end with complete assurance that he will again rejoice with us in Heaven as his famous words, “I will see you on the other side” still ring in our hearts with his beautiful smile and love of cooking.  Jesus and family were always number one in his heart. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 2pm at Rose Hill Cemetery with Rev. Ivan Ryan officiating. Military Rites will be performed by the Marion VFW with assistance from the National Guard. Blue Funeral Home in Marion is assisting the family with arrangements. Romans 8:18 For I consider that the suffering of this present time are not worth comparing with the Glory that is to be revealed. John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you, not as the world gives do I give to you.  Do not let your heart be troubled nor let it be fearful. Dad we love you and will miss you till we meet again. Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Go fly high on that mountain, fish, hunt and dance till we meet again.  A piece of our hearts left with you.  We will all be together again. John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son.  For whosoever shall believe in me shall not perish but have everlasting life. “See you on the other side”
