Goreville- Carl Manier, Jr., 76, of Goreville, passed away at 1:45 PM, Sunday, October 1, 2017 at his home with his wife by his side.
He was born on June 18, 1941 in Stonefort to Carl and Eva (Lawrence) Manier. He married Sharon Nichols on December 20, 2002 in Johnson County. She survives of Goreville. They were married for almost fifteen years and travelled 1000’s of miles together in their RV. Alaska was one of their favorite locations. They loved to watch sunrises and sunsets together.
Carl attended McKendree University, Murray State and SIU-C where he received his Master’s Degree in Science.
He was a teacher for over thirty years at Marion High School. He also taught one year at Carrier Mills and seven years at John A Logan College in Carterville.
His biggest thrill was reeling in a big bass or knocking down geese in Arkansas where he helped run a duck hunting club. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.
He suffered from Lewy Body Dementia and kidney problems. The family would like to thank all the girls at Hospice of Southern Illinois (especially Carol).

Brother- William Zane Manier and wife Dawn of Oakdale
Other granddaughter- Mykayla Stroehlein of Vienna
He was preceded in death by his parents, oldest son- Charles Edward Manier and both sisters.
Carl wished to be cremated. A private family service will be held at a later date and inurnment will take place in Cana Cemetery in Goreville. Memorial arrangements were made at Blue Funeral Home in Goreville.
