Charles Denzel Thompson

Charles Denzel Thompson, age 89, of Marion, Illinois,  passed away Monday, January 23, 2023 at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion, Illinois.

Charles was born May 04, 1933 in rural Marion on the family farm, a son of Lawson and Irene (Willard) Thompson. His family moved to Creal Springs, where he attended school.  He joined the US Army for 1 year.  He married the love of his life, Inez T. Lenon on May 10, 1951 in Piggott, AR.  The couple moved to Oak Forest, IL and later to Tinley Park, IL.  In 1962 they moved back to Creal Springs.  Denzel worked as a Bricklayer and owned and operated Thompson Masonry for 40 years.  Denzel owned and trained thoroughbred race horses, enjoyed  hunting and took great pride in maintaining his yard.  

He is survived by his wife Inez T. Thompson of Marion, IL; two daughters, Barbara J. (David) Toler of Dongola, IL and Trish A. (Greg) Jennings of Johnston City, IL; six grandchildren, Anthony Thompson, Brett (Melissa) Vinson, Casey (Joseph) Restivo, Brandon (Angela) Jennings, Aaron (Rayna) Jennings, and Todd (Lydia) Jennings; fourteen great-grandchildren, Gavin Thompson, Jeffery Thompson, Xander Vinson, Makayla Kincaid, Lauren Jennings, Kailey Jennings, Elijah Jennings, Lawson Jennings, Araya Jennings, Keira Jennings, Nahum Jennings, Canon Jennings, Lainey Jennings, and Emmitt Jennings; one sister, Deloris Lafary of Marion, IL and one sister-in-law Netta Thompson of Marion, IL  He is preceded in death by one son, Bobby D. Thompson; one grandchild, Michael Thompson; his parents, Lawson and Irene Thompson; and two siblings, Herbert Thompson, Deon Thompson, and sister-in-law Betty Thompson.

Visitation will be Friday, January 27th, 2023 from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM at Blue Funeral Home.  Funeral Service will be held Friday, January 27, 2023, 11:00 AM at Blue Funeral Home with Rev. Dennis Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery in Marion. 

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Shriner's Hospital.
