Daniel Elsasser

June 10, 1941 — April 23, 2019

Daniel Elsasser, 77, of Marion, Illinois passed away peacefully in his home, April 23rd, 2019. 

Dan was a veteran of the Vietnam war where he earned a Purple Heart medal. He worked as a registered nurse in Kankakee, Illinois. He retired and settled in Marion, Illinois, where he spent his time fishing, hunting, and spending time with his animals.

Dan leaves behind many friends and family, he is preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Helen Elsasser of Shawneetown, Illinois. He is survived by his sister, Wanda and her husband Hugh David Scates, his nephew and nieces, Jeff and Christina Scates, Tammy and Dr. Michael Blain, and Kim and Chris Fromm. He had many great nieces and nephews whom he adored. He is also survived by his wife of 13 years, Lorie Elsasser, and step-daughter Cierra Francis and her husband, Chandler Francis, as well as one granddaughter, Claire Francis. He also had many neighbors, whom he loved like family.

Services will be held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin, Illinois on Saturday, April 27th, with visitation at 10 am and funeral mass at 11 for family and friends. His final resting place will be at Westbrook Cemetery in Shawneetown, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois for all of their selfless work.
