Dimple Henderson

October 21, 1929 — October 19, 2015

Marion-Dimple Jean (Palmer) Henderson, 85, passed away on Monday, October 19, 2015 at Marion Rehab and Nursing with her sister, Etta, holding her hand. Dimple was born on October 21, 1929 in Cambria, the daughter of Albert and Grace (Kelly) Palmer.  She was born a twin to her brother, Delmus Dean Palmer.  The twins were placed on pillows on a library table with flat irons surrounding them to serve as incubators.  Unfortunately, their mother passed away two weeks later leaving Albert with six children to care for.  Needless to say, Albert needed help and several relatives and organizations stepped up to help.  Two years later, Albert married Lola Harris and brought all the children back together again.  They became a family with Lola’s son, Bon Crawford and later Albert and Lola’s daughter, Etta Ann. On July 1, 1947, at age 17, Dimple married Wilbur Ralph Henderson of Freemanspur at Chanute Field in Rantoul, IL.  This began her life as an Air Force wife for 32 years, living in Alaska and Altus, OK.  Following her husband’s death, she returned to her roots in Southern Illinois in 1989. Dimple was an avid bowler and golfer.  She loved spending time with her sisters and their families and adored her grandchildren.  Dimple also loved crocheting, sewing, needlework, watching football and baseball and baking.  She collected beanie babies, cardinals, angels and spotty dogs. Dimple was known for her whoopee pies, date pinwheels and party mix and everyone received them at Christmas.  She taught herself to crochet and sew and won several blue ribbons for her crafts at the county fair in Oklahoma. She and her sister, Lill, enjoyed going to water aerobics at John A. Logan and being silly at TOPS. Dimple is survived by her daughter, Jean (Mitchell) Egan of DePere, WI; daughter in law, Pamn Henderson of Panama City, FL; granddaughter, Katie (Mark) Tauscher of Green Bay, WI; grandsons, SMSgt Sean (April) Egan of Colorado Springs, CO and PJ (Amanda) Egan of Milwaukee, WI; great granddaughters, Nikki Tauscher, Jamie Tauscher, Halie Garcia, Franchesca Tauscher and Maddie Egan; great grandsons, Bryan Garcia, Sean Egan, Jr and Jack Egan; numerous nieces and nephews and her sister, Etta Ann (Homer) Robinson of Marion. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Grace and Lola Palmer; her husband, CMSgt (ret) Wilbur R. Henderson; son, Tsgt (ret) Jack Alan Henderson; brothers Delmus Dean Palmer, George Palmer, Ray Palmer, Bon Crawford and sisters, Lura Franklin and Lillian Grimes. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 26, 2015 at 11am at Blue Funeral Home in Marion with Rev.
