Donald Paul Samuel

Donald Paul Samuel, age 76, of Herrin, Illinois, passed away Sunday, March 17, 2024 at Helia Healthcare in Energy, Illinois.

Donald was born October 21, 1947 in Union County, Illinois, a son of Glenn and Gladys (Lavender) Samuel. He grew up in Carterville, Illinois, where he attended school. He later attended trade school in Louisville, Kentucky where he studied electricity. Donald then served in the United States Navy for two years and served in the Mediterranean Sea during the Vietnam War. Upon returning he worked with his father's excavating business and then worked at Forsythe Mining Company for almost 10 years. Donald enjoyed fishing, watching classic westerns, visiting the library and spending time with his good friend, Bill Watson.

Donald attended Springhill Baptist Church near Creal Springs. He was a member of the UMWA and Little Egypt Bass Club.

He married the love of his life, Dora Ann Oliver on May 01, 1971 in Carterville, IL.

He is survived by his wife Dora Ann Samuel of Herrin, IL; three children, Libbey (Gavin) Clark of Marion IL, Kevin (Letty) Samuel of Fenton, MO and Abbey Samuel of Carterville, IL six grandchildren, Lilly Clark, Caleb Clark, Payton Samuel, Eli Clark and Tyler Walker and Emma Walker; great-grandchild, Sakura Burnette . He is preceded in death by his parents, Glenn Vertis Samuel and Gladys Marie Samuel.

Burial will be at a later date. Blue Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
