Erma "Maureen" Sanders

Erma “Maureen” Sanders, 93, went to her Heavenly home on Sunday, October 13, 2019 at 7:05am.

Maureen was born on March 29, 1926 in Paulton to Herman and Royena Mandrell.  She married “Jube” Sanders and he preceded her in death.

Maureen will always be remembered for her caring nature, giving spirit and unending love for her family, friends and church family.  She was a beloved, cherished member of Pittsburg Freewill Baptist Church. Maureen was an excellent cook and loved sharing her gift with everyone.  Anyone who knew her had enjoyed a pot of her chicken and dumplings or one of her cakes, pies or cookies.

As a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, niece and cousin, she dedicated her life to her family and her friends and was always caring for others.

She is survived by her son, Terry Lee Edwards of San Antonio, TX; daughters, Jean (Mike) Sanders-Tompkins of Carterville and Mary Ann Sanders Cassidy of Pittsburg; granddaughter, Melissa Easton of Carbondale; grandson, Zach Tompkins of Carterville; great grandsons, Alvie and Arlo Easton; sister, Mary Ellen (Glenn) Nicholson of Alton and many nieces and nephews.

Maureen was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters and brothers, Emma Randalls, Evelyn O’Neal, Myrtle Ostendorf, Bob Mandrell, Troy Mandrell, twin brother, Coy Mandrell and RV Mandrell.

As per her wishes, her body was donated to science to help others.  A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, October 20, 2019 at 4pm at Pittsburg Freewill Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Arthritis Foundation or the Pittsburg Freewill Baptist Church and will be accepted at the church.
