Genevieve June Marks

June 11, 1929 — December 20, 2015

Energy-Genevieve June Marks, 86, passed away Sunday, December 20, 2015 at Helia Healthcare in Energy surrounded by family and friends. June was born on June 11, 1929 in Johnston City to Carl and Jewel (Fowler) Barnes.  She attended Johnston City schools from first grade through high school, graduating in 1947.  She married the love of her life, William Vernon “Bill” Marks on July 12, 1947 and they shared 60 years of marriage.  Vernon passed away July 14, 2007. June is survived by her sons, Bill (Kathy) Marks of Marion and Gary (Cindy) Marks of Marion.  Also surviving is her brother, Glen W. (Jackie) Barnes of Johnston City; grandchildren, Megan (Andy) Tate, Courtney Brooke Marks, Mary Beth (Danny) Baxter, Jennifer Rebecca (John) Thompson, Jon William Marks and friend Trish Krumnauer, Jason Lee Marks and 15 great grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews. June and her husband operated the Marks Hardware and Lampe Shoppe for over 30 years.  She was a member of Whiteash Freewill Baptist Church.  June especially enjoyed her time at Heritage Woods Assisted Living in Benton where she met her very good friend, Charles Dunford.  They spent many hours sharing their belief in Christ, a love and respect for each other, their hopes and stories and shared a love of gospel music and family. Preceding her in death was her parents; husband, Vernon; two sisters, Rose (Tom) Kerr and Helen (Leo) Jackson and infant brother, Carl Jr. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at 1pm at Whiteash Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Andy Lee officiating.  Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City.  Visitation will also be on Wednesday from 11am until the time of service at the church. Blue Funeral Home in Marion is assisting the family with arrangements.
