George Loren Bankston

George Loren Bankston MARION-George Loren Bankston, 84, of Marion passed away at 1:18 PM, Thursday, April 16, 2004 at Heartland Regional Medical Center, Marion. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, April 19, 2004 at the Blue Funeral Home in Marion with Brother Jim Jackson officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, Sunday, April 18, 2004 at the funeral home. Burial will be at East Liberty Cemetery, west of Marion. Military rites will be held at the cemetery by Marion VFW Post #1301. Memorials may be made to the Marion VFW Post #1301 Ritual Team; envelopes are available at the funeral home or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959. Mr. Bankston was born on December 23, 1919 in Williamson County, Illinois to Carl Earl and Myrtle (Green) Bankston. He married Vinnie Morgan on May 10, 1947 in Williamson County, Illinois, and she survives. Other survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Ron Reed of Johnston City; son and daughter-in-law, Carl Deon and Robyn Bankston of Marion; grandchildren, Brad Oxendine, Chad Oxendine and Brenah Bankston; brother, Bill Bankston of Marion; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-son, Tommy Cash; and brother, Bob Bankston. Mr. was a member of the Hickory Grove Christian Church. He retired from CIPS after many years of service. He served in the United States Army, stationed overseas during World War II. He was a member of IBEW Local #702. He loved spending time at his farm and with his family and friends.
