Creal Springs- Harold F. Thompson, 91, of Creal Springs, passed away at 6:00 PM, Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Parkway Manor in Marion.
Harold was born on March 6, 1925 in Spring Hill, Nova Scotia, Canada to Charles Franklin and Margaret (Palmer) Thompson.
He was a United States Marine who served his country bravely while stationed overseas during WWII. Once honorably discharged, he returned home and married his best friend and love of his life, Ludene Anderson, on October 18, 1946 in Piggott, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on December 13, 2013. He was a hardworking man who had many jobs throughout the years with the last few years being in southern Illinois where he worked as a coal miner. He drove the buggy and worked the shovel for Eagle #2 mine prior to his retirement.
Harold was a man of God and loved serving his Lord and Savior. He was a longtime member and Deacon of Mt. Moriah General Baptist Church in Creal Springs. He was also a member of the Ohio Association of General Baptists and United Mine Workers of America. Harold was blessed with a large family. He helped raise six children with patience, love, humility and the love of God. He was a wonderful father and husband. In his spare time, he enjoyed farming, gardening, woodworking, horseback riding, playing music with his family and raising farm animals.

Son- Lee Dempsey of Meridian, MS
Daughter- Janet Campbell and husband Ronald of Creal Springs
Daughter- Marg Fletcher and husband Gary of Thompsonville
Daughter- Gwenda Blackwell of Creal Springs
Sixteen grandchildren
Twenty-Seven Great Grandchildren
Four Great Great Grandchildren
Brother- Avis Dempsey of Seguin, TX
Sister- Elizabeth George of Flat Rock, MI
Several nieces, nephews and cousins
He was preceded in death by his parents, son- James Thompson, 2 sisters- Marlene Dempsey and Agnes Hasseker and one brother- Don Dempsey.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at Mt. Moriah General Baptist Church/ 1563 Palzo Road/ Creal Springs, IL 62922. Pastor Larry Adams and Rev. Ben Taylor will officiate. Burial will follow at Creal Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at Blue Funeral Home in Marion.
