Hazel C. Otey MARION-Hazel C. Otey, 92, of Marion passed away at 7:25 AM, Saturday, April 24, 2004 at Shawnee Christian Nursing Center in Herrin. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, April 26, 2004 at the Blue Funeral Home in Marion with Reverend Leroy Waggoner officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 PM, Monday, April 26, 2004 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Creal Springs Cemetery, Creal Springs. Mrs. Otey was born on April 14, 1912 in Creal Springs, Illinois to Charles and Ada B. (Turnage) Boyd. She married Earl Edwards, who preceded her in death and later married William Otey who also preceded her in death. Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Mandrell of Johnston City, and Donna Peebles of the Lake of Egypt; fourteen grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; and sister, Barbara Stanley of Marion. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; two sons, Melvin and Marvin Edwards; daughter, Monta Lou Edwards; grandson, Danny Mandrell; sister, Eva Moore; and brother, Ray Boyd. Mrs. Otey was a member of the Fellowship General Baptist Church in Marion. She formerly worked for Sangamo Electric and was a homemaker.
