Jerry Wathen

Jerry W. Wathen, age 74, of Marion, Illinois, formerly of Park Forest, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, July 11, 2020 at 2:30 p.m. in his home.

Jerry was born on September 7, 1945, in Harrisburg, the son of Ryan Leo and Violet (Wilson) Wathen.  He was a proud veteran of the United States Army having served in the Vietnam War.  Jerry worked as an interior decorator in Chicago and most recently worked in real estate.  He loved gardening, flowers, dogs and cats, and loved spending time with his friends.

Survivors include his partner, Orlando Contreras of Park Forest; one step brother; two step sisters; and numerous cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; step father; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Jerry’s wishes were to be cremated and a private memorial service will be held at a later date.

For those who prefer, memorials may be made to a humane society or animal shelter of the donor’s choice.

Jerry was always kind to me, I last saw him at my moms funeral a few years back, my aunt ruby ( jerrys mom) was a guiding light to me and Jerry always had something nice to say, he will be dearly missed, rest in peace cousin Jerry

Jerry was a great friend and one of the gentlest and kindest souls I ever had the pleasure of knowing. He was like a father to so many and made us all better for knowing him. We will miss him forever.
