Marion-John “Jack” Arthur Eastman, 81, passed away on Monday, October 16, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family and friends.
John was born on August 17, 1936 on the Eastman Fruit Farm in rural Johnson County in Tunnel Hill, IL. He was raised in Johnson County and attended Webb Town School through 8th grade in a one room school house. John graduated from Goreville High School in 1954. He worked for the State of Illinois Highway Department and later for the Vienna Correctional Center, where he retired from.
John also raised livestock and fruit earlier in his life. After retirement, John worked for many years for his brother’s business at Eastman’s Orchards. John was able to work daily with his brothers picking apples and peaches while his mother and sister helped sell the fruit. They enjoyed many years working together as a family.
John was active in local politics throughout his life. He was an avid reader, enjoyed exercising including working out at the HUB as well as walking and bike riding. John was very social and had many, many friends.

Brothers-Dick (Betty) Eastman of Marion and Barry (Donna) Eastman of Goreville
Many nieces, nephews and cousins
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Alona Eastman; sister, Joan Ragain and niece, Cindy Ragain.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 19, 2017 at 1pm at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Marion with Rev. Jim Jackson and Rev. Greg Eastman officiating. Burial will follow at Cana Cemetery in Goreville. Visitation will be on Thursday from 11am until the time of service at the church.
