John William Lindsay, age 80, of New Burnside, Illinois, passed away Monday, November 20, 2023 at his home in New Burnside, Illinois.
John was born March 24, 1943 in Marion, Illinois, a son of James and Helen (Borman) Lindsay.
John's family moved to Manteno, Illinois where he grew up and graduated High School. He joined the US Army and after his service returned to Manteno, IL and married the love of his life, Minnie Sue Calfee on December 10, 1966. He and his wife lived in Bradley, Illinois and he worked for General Motors as a Pipe Fitter in Willow Springs, Illinois. When the GM plant closed he moved to Lansing, Michigan and worked as a pipe fitter until his retirement. After his retirement in1996 he and his wife moved to New Burnside. He started a business raising quail for local game preserves. John enjoyed hunting, fishing, attending auctions and garage sales, and working on his hobby farm. He was a member of UAW and former President of the River Oaks Quail Chapter.
He is survived by his son, John R. (Marnie) Lindsay of Mackinaw, IL; one grandson, Quintin J Lindsay; brother James Lindsay of Marion, IL; and one sister, Cindy (Steve) Simmons of Marion, IL. He is preceded in death by his wife Minnie Sue Lindsay; his parents, James Lindsay and Helen Lindsay; and one sister, Judy Pfaff.
Visitation will be Tuesday, November 28th, 2023 from 10:30 AM - 11:30 AM at the Blue Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 28, 2023, 11:30 AM at Blue Funeral Home with Rev. Steven Lindsay officiating. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery in Marion. Military rites will be presented by members of the Marion Post #1301, American Legion Post #147 and the National Guard Flag Detail Unit.
