Marvin Pulley

August 1, 1935 — January 6, 2017

Marvin Pulley, 81, of Marion, Illinois passed away peacefully on Friday, January 06, 2017 at Mount Vernon Health Care Center with his son, Jeff Pulley, and granddaughter Kaci Dunn at his side.  Born on August 1, 1935 in Marion, IL to Guy and Sylvia Pulley, he lived his entire life in the Marion, Illinois area.  He grew up on a farm southeast of Marion with nine brothers (Weldon, Edgar, Guy Jr., Charles, Dean, Wesley, Robert, Wendell, Elijah) and four sisters (Nellie Webb, Mary Faulkner, Yvonne Adams, and Margaret Patterson).  Marvin is survived by Vera Hutchings Pulley, his wife of 32 years, his four sons (Rick, Randy, Jeff, and Kerry), three children by marriage (Julie Graul, Lane Feezor, and Sarah Gray), sixteen grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.   Marvin and Vera enjoyed life to the fullest and having fun!  He loved watching wildlife on his little farm east of Marion, being a member of LivingStone Community Church, and traveling to Maggie Valley in the Great Smoky Mountains to relax. In 1980, Marvin started his own business called Pulley Tire Service in Marion, IL on old Route 13.  His sons, Jeff, Randy, and Kerry, worked with him over the years.  He had many years of success as tire man extraordinaire with special thanks to all his patrons.  He retired in 2001 closing the business with a party and celebration. Marvin was known for his laughter, kidding, dancing, and his strong, loving bear hugs.   Family and friends meant the world to him and he cherished them all.  He and Halsey Beasley were best of friends in the tire business and in his personal life.   A long time friend, Don Fluke, drove him to the restaurants faithfully each day to have breakfast and coffee, and a caring neighbor, Jamie McGee helped watch over him during the latter stages of Alzheimer’s, which was much appreciated by family. The family will receive friends for visitation on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 5pm – 8pm, and for the funeral service on Wednesday, January 11am at Blue Funeral Home in Marion, Illinois with Rev. Jimmy Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant “Shed” Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made in Marvin’s name to Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org and will be accepted at Blue Funeral Home/PO Box 411/Marion, IL 62959.
