Guestbook

Daddy always felt close to Maudene. My grandma always talked about Anna ironing, always ironing. She always wanted to keep up with the "Hilliards".

Maudene was a dear dear cherished friend. I will miss her so very much. Due to COVID 19 and her illness we did not have much contact this last year and I am so sorry for that. My deepest sympathy goes out to her children and also Lucas who she just adored. May she rest in peace now that she is with Charley and her Mother especially. I LOVE you sweet lady..

I remember Maudene at about eight years old, wearing a plaid dress with a white collar and while ankle girl's socks She was the first girl whose home I visited upon my family's moving to town when I was in the second grade. She lived on the opposite side of Jefferson Grade School in a house that no longer exists. I recall walking on a hot day across the schoolyard to her house and meeting her mother, standing, iced tea in hand, at her ironing board in their linoleum floored living room, curtained widow fully open, while she ironed clothes. She, a coal miner's widow, who earned income at least in part by doing laundry for others. Maudene's slicked back hair and tee shirted older brothers, whom I never met, were outside at the street, hovered over a car on which they were working while listening to the Everly Brothers. Maudene, the youngest child, if memory serves me, was a quiet but friendly and smart classmate, and I enjoyed having another gir whose home I was allowed to visit. I did not know her as an adult but watched in vain from WA State for her name when the 50th reunion sign ups were being made. I had often wondered what became of her and hoped she had been able to construct a mostly good life for her self and her loved ones. My deepest condolences go to her family and friends,.
