MARION-Vernon Richey, 88, of Marion, passed away at 9:40 PM, Friday, May 14, 2004 at Heartland Regional Medical Center, Marion. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, May 17, 2004 at the Blue Funeral Home, Marion. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, Monday, May 17, 2004 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery, Marion. Military rites will be held at the cemetery by Marion VFW Post#1301 and Marion American Legion Post #147. Memorials may be made to the Marion VFW Post #1301 Ritual Team; envelopes are available at the funeral home or may be sent co: Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959. Mr. Richey was born on October 29, 1915 in Williamson County, Illinois to Benjamin Franklin and Della (Kennedy) Richey. He married Betty L. Key on January 25, 1947 in Morganfield, Kentucky, and she survives. Other survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Patty and David Cox of Herrin and Jeanne and Kenneth Stokes of Evansville, Indiana; grandchildren, Brandis Knight, Kerri Jo Hill, Derek Cox, David Cox, Benjamin Stokes, and Tyson Mele; great grandchildren, Riley Knight, Cole Knight, Addison Hill and Austin Hill; sister, Grace McMichael of Marion; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Marianne Orr; three brothers; and two sisters. Mr. Richey retired from the sales department at Parks Implement. He served in the United States Army during World War II, where he was stationed in Germany. He loved to hunt and fish.
