Walter Wade

December 16, 1937 — August 8, 2018

Marion-Walter Dean “Johnny” Wade, 80, died Wednesday August 8th, 2018 peacefully at home surrounded by friends, family, and love.  He was the son of Woodrow Wade and Ethel (Meracle) Bradley.  He was a non-denominational Christian that believed deeply in the saving power of God’s grace.  He was a retired Captain of Security for BCBS and WPS.  He was also a retired police officer for Spillertown.  He was a well-known country musician throughout Southern Illinois at one time.  In the 1980’s he, along with his wife Doris, were the leaders of popular local bands like Johnny Wade and The Waders and Just Country.    Walter is survived by his wife of almost 46 years, Doris Wade, six daughters & five sons; Daughters & Spouses:  Debbie & Kirby Whitworth of Moss Point MS, Tammy & Greg Sullivan of Marion, Paula & Gordon Reach of Zeigler, Sherry & Larry Hatton of Opdyke.  Kim & Jarrod Morse of Marion, and Samantha & Elijah Pulley of Creal Springs.  Sons & Spouses: Jeff & Francesca Hanks of Carlisle PA, Tim & Nova Hanks of Melissa TX, John & Jennifer Wade of Marion, Rick & Beth Wade of Marion, and Steve Wade of Creal Springs.    He is also survived by two brothers:  Bill & Debbie Bradley, Bruce & Judy Wade; three sisters:  Brenda Wade & Jim Hickenbothem, Carolyn Taylor, and Mary & John Richardson. Special breakfast crew & honorary brother Bob & Marlene Simpson (Nephew).  Special friends:  Alan & Marsha Clemons; Jerry & Jody Page, Josh, Bailey & Davin.    Preceding him in death:  Dylan Hanks – grandson, Richard Wade-brother, Al Bradley – brother, Dorothy Collins-sister, Edna Mae Earl – sister, Shirley Christian – sister, Sheila Wade – sister, Dale Wade – brother, Parents Woodrow Wade & Ethel Meracle.    In keeping with his wishes, we will host a “get together” on Friday August 10th from 4-7 pm at the Boys Scout Cabin at Ashley Park in Marion.  It will be a Celebration of Life gathering sharing the people, music, and things he loved.  There won’t be a formal service and no viewing.  It’s just a “come as you are and stay as long as you like” kind of time.  We will have food so family friends, and fellow musician friends are welcome to join in the meal anytime and offer support to the family and each other.    Blue Funeral Home in Marion is assisting the family with arrangements.
